On the 18th March, the Association of Graduate Recruitment are holding their inaugural supplier trade show, bringing together a host of specialist companies in graduate recruitment with employer brands looking to engage and recruit young people leaving school and university.

With our background and experience in supporting universities, apprenticeship providers and a leading graduate recruitment website with their recruitment marketing, it makes perfect sense for JM Academic to exhibit at the show. It will also provide the platform for launching our 2014 School Leaver Research project.

This follows research conducted in May 2013 with 15 – 19 year olds, where we looked to determine how confident and informed they felt about their further education and career options. Their response exposed a communications gap between employers and opportunity providers and the student audience.

For example, just 20% of students had seen activity from prospective employers and felt they had an understanding of the options available. Whilst 70% of students said that the employer activity they’d seen just wasn’t enough. The research also revealed that 87% of students would like their school or college to provide more information on employment opportunities.

Less than a year on there has been significant increase in the opportunities available to young people, including school leaver programmes and apprenticeship schemes from a wide range of employer brands and opportunity providers. Most recently during National Apprenticeship Week, 20,000 new opportunities were promised by companies including Lloyds Banking Group, EE and Greene King.

During the AGR show we’ll be sharing the insights from our 2013 School Leaver Research and what that means for employers and opportunity providers trying to attract school leaver talent. We’ll also be explaining how our services can help overcome the communications gap and achieve better engagement within schools and colleges. We will also be giving visitors to our stand the opportunity to put forward their own questions for our research. The results will be available in July 2014 and we look forward to sharing our insights then.
